Pocket Coil Sofa Suspension Experience?
Hello all,
I'm curious if anyone has experience with chairs or sofas using a L&P pocket coil suspension?
I've only been able to identify two builders using the Leggett and Platt SoftLuxe pocket coil -- and the only reading I can find about the suspension technology says that the jury is still out. Similar to an 8-way, the coils rest upon taught reinforced strapping attached to the frame, not a separate wooden frame box attached inside the frame like most "drop-in" suspensions.
All other indicators from the builder we're considering demonstrates quality construction... so while the traditional argument for an 8-way suspension as a mark of quality construction elsewhere in the build doesn't apply here. (I.e., there's no plywood anywhere, high quality joinery, NC factory checks out, have brick and mortar showroom locations, pure aniline leathers, responsive sales.)
So, jury? What say you? Any differences in sit? Concerns about longevity?

I have no experience - none of my makers are using this product.

Thanks -- good to know. I love how supportive our L&P pocket coils in our mattress are (and seem to be holding up after 2 years), so I'm puzzled why this tech hasn't been more widely adopted for seating. ~M
Re: Pocket Coil Sofa Suspension Experience?
It could be the cost of the unit from L&P, it may approach the price of making a true 8-way hand-tied piece. Could be it's oversprung that way, too. There are a lot of coils in those packs and it could also be the gauge is too light in the springs. I don't really know. I can assure you all my makers have most certainly looked at these from L&P and most likely tested them - and chose not to move forward with them for whatever reason. One day I will ask them, but right now they are so overworked trying to get things out the door before Christmas Break and year end cleanups, I don't want to slow them down with a phone call, plus it would take half an hour and four transfers to get to the right person.
