You rarely mention anything other than leather. We did buy a high quality leather Stickley Mission Bow Arm chair with ottoman, as our statement piece. For budget reasons, we ordered a fabric sofa, 8 way hand tied, with a large leather ottoman. We got an off the shelf slipcover from Sure Fit, that protects the fabric, looks good, and is quickly removed if you want to show the sofa off. It's dog proof, and can withstand liquid spills, which allows me to eat/snack on it. The slipcover only covers half the sides, half the back, and half the front bottom, so the beautiful fabric pattern is always visible. Sofa is over 2 years old, and looks brand new. Great fabric patterns are now available.
In the early nineties, I had a beautiful well made flex steel leather sofa. Beautiful color, soft leather. Between the sun and spilling drinks, very sad demise. In the front page of the Furniture Forum, 5 sofas are shown. The last one is fabric, with a leather ottoman in front. I went for that look, and got the well made 8 way hand tied sofa, which would have been beyond my budget in a quality leather.
