Furniture Market Spring 2013
Let my house at 4 a.m. this morning and just got back home at 10 p.m. 640 miles round trip in my diesel delivery truck as I had to take it to load up an estate sale I purchased that was in Chapel Hill, NC. Also, because of the time lost doing that, I only went to Hancock and Moore, Jessica Charles and Councill showrooms this trip and skipped everything else as I wanted to get back at a decent hour. I will report more in detail and took a LOT of photos this time. Briefly I can tell you that Hancock and Moore has done some spectacular new work that just blew me away. So far advanced that the usual copycat makers will find it too complex to try to re-create under their own label - stunning product unlike I've never seen them roll out. They are very proud of it - rightly so. Remember with the iPhone first came out? Like that..... Stay tuned for the full report soon (I'm little tired tonight). It will be worth the wait.

Re: Furniture Market Spring 2013
I have a very busy day today unloading freight, the estate sale I picked up yesterday and the Murrow's truck just showed up 10 minutes ago with 9 pieces of Hancock and Moore, so I won't get to posting photos and answering all the questions today - have to go push freight. However I'm going to give you a teaser real quick of one of the ~hot~ new looks Hancock and Moore has. They have a new 'fashion-woman' series by a talented new designer out of Texas that models the looks of the fashion houses of Italy, here's just one new chair from that group that at first look, caught me unawares. But when I came back to it an hour later I realized it is stunning and groundbreaking.

And of course my pal Alan Price, fellow motorcycle-rider and car enthusiast, has come up with another smashing design in this chair inspired by an Australian Aboriginal Boomerang. Its wild and fun and distinctive and all-Alan (yes I ordered one) and is shown with Modena Tan Burnished. Belgian Chocolate finish on the wood, and a new French 'purse' leather on the sides and arm tops and a tribal inlay on the back of the legs.

More to follow, a lot more. Enjoy the peek.

Re: Furniture Market Spring 2013
What cool looking chairs! Such detail! Can't wait to see more. :)
-
Re: Furniture Market Spring 2013
I do like the first one, including the zipper detail. Surprising for me. Now about that boomerang chair, or rather what appears to be a rocker version of it in the background, that just might have dear husband's name on it if the seat isn't too deep ...
-
Re: Furniture Market Spring 2013
Oh dear. The chairs are exquisite. I am so looking forward to your photos.

Re: Furniture Market Spring 2013
Is that the Leslie sofa I see in the background of the Boomerang chair? Can't wait to see the rest and if there is any new leathers I like.:D

Re: Furniture Market Spring 2013
I'm not going to have time today to post all the photos, but will start chipping away at them with my comments included. A couple of notes on the Market in general...
* PLEASE do not come to the Market Showroom in High Point unescorted. It is not open to the public. Someone here on the forum presented themselves at the H&M showroom on Saturday and told one of the principal owners of H&M that I said it was OK for him to come in and browse. That was not only embarrassing to me when they told me that, its incorrect. If you want to go to Market, I can arrange to meet you there by appointment and escort you as my guest, but you cannot show up and expect to be granted access. You must set this up with me ahead of time and be there the day I attend.
* Hancock and Moore is taking a new direction and making bold steps to lead in innovative design and concepts. I have never seen Hancock & Moore show this many new and complex designs. They are legacy building, not just churning out a few tweaks on the same old stuff. They are making things now that I don't think other companies even have the capability to produce. Complex frame shapes, new features, filling gaps in their lineup - really good stuff. They also have a big push on to motorize more every motion piece in the line, and you can choose from plug-in to an outlet, or a rechargeable battery pack (no visible cords) that is good for 200 cycles before it needs charging and the battery itself is good for 400 charges.
* They have introduced real walnut on several frames, and its not maple colored to a walnut finish. Belgian Chocolate and the new Brilliance finish are outstanding, by the way.
* The new high end leather called "Envy" is so soft and so elegant I thought it was deerskin, but its not - its German cowhide.
PLEASE SAVE ALL COMMENTS UNTIL ALL PHOTOS ARE POSTED (or start a new thread not embedded here). I want to get all the photos up seamlessly first. Thanks!

While suede (Sonoma) looks nice, be aware you don't slide on it and you stick to it almost like velcro! OK in a chair, but I'd not get a sofa in it myself.

Gorgeous - Gorgeous Arrington Sofa in the butter-soft Envy leather. WOW. Quilted back option makes it fun. Note that the back border was done in a decorative leather as well. One of my favorites.
That little puff-ball thangie didn't do much for me. But you can order one if so inclined

Take note of the finish on the Drake Bench, this is MARSEILLES, which has been in the line a long time. See that it has a hand-painted gold border applied and on the carving details? When you see this finish in a store on the sample chips, you may miss that gold trim and be in for a surprise when you get your new piece.

Again, note the MARSEILLES finish on the wood, with the gold highlights. This is a stunning new sofa. Really handsome, of course anything in the new ENVY leather is going to be.

This new Sorensen Lounge chairs is easily overlooked, but it has to be one of the best sitting chairs I've sat in. Four Stars on comfort.

into Alan Price Designs section. I really like Alan's pieces as a whole and always order some. Last photo shows 'belt' trims which can be used as gimp or decorative border. These are real Italian belt leathers from Gucci, Prada, etc. They're costly and will add to the price considerably, but they're very cool.

While not new, the Steel Farm Barstool is my favorite. I have these in my home at my kitchen counter than we use every day. You can sit in this stool all day in comfort and it's so strong its likely to last several generations. One of the more pricey barstools, but the good stuff always is.
The exposed wood on the Dutch chair is even more handsome than that camera can capture.

The new Bohemian sofa sat so good, and looked so sharp, that I ordered one for stock just as you see it in the photo. Unique design, great comfort - what else can you ask for in a sofa?
The new Parkway chair is for BIG MEN. It's huge. Also in a recliner that you will see later.

This is the art of furniture-making. Look at the complexity of steam-bending that exposed wood on this new sofa! The joints are perfectly done (H&M owns their own frame shop, unlike most makes that sub-contract their frames to others). This is what I mean by H&M is setting the bar high and other makers can't copy this style. Its very difficult to make. And I ordered one of these for the floor, of course.
And that Rocker is a child's rocker! You don't get a sense of scale in my photo, but Alan challenged me to sit in it as he says it will take 500 lbs (I'm not quite that big). I considered the challenge, but decided I'd never get back up again being that low to the ground...lol

This new Parkway Recliner is the largest Hancock and Moore has ever made. Have a 6' 5" man in the house? This is his chair. Have a 300lb man needs a recliner? This one is wide enough. The photo doesn't show the scale, but I feel 'lost' in it and I'm 5' 11" and 235 lb, hardly a shrinking violet. Note the one piece back, no seams. That's an entire hide used for that. Impressive (most companies piece up the back)

This is the star of the show, the new collection by a young designer out of Texas named Chet. He's an ex-Marine, and a great guy - I enjoyed chatting with him. His take on furniture design is that women have 90% of the decision making process in buying stylish pieces, and the husbands pretty much just go along. So what he did was take his designs from the latest in women's fashion from all the top design houses. At first, I thought it pretty corny (hey, I'm not fashion maven, I'm the only guy at Market in a polo shirt and khakis instead of coat and tie). But on my second trip through I thought, "He's really onto something here". It's unique, its edgy, and its hugely stylish. Notice the one chair leg peeking out from the skirt....that's from Angelina Jolie on the red carpet at the Oscars (not kidding!)
Look at these with an open mind...

Note the very complex and graceful curves on the Paula chair, few makers can make this complex back frame. This is the 'art' of Hancock and Moore.

I really wanted to like this new Hunter Chair, because it looks very cool....but it doesn't sit well. The curve on the seat is too gradual and there is no support. Oh well, you can't hit it over the fence every time you go to bat.
