Spammers are again hitting the forum

Every day there are spammers registering on the forum and hitting it with their garbage. much of it porn links. I delete most of them within a few hours of when they are posted but it requires constant monitoring. I am going to make it harder to register by asking a challenge question that requires a little work to research, but yet should be an easy answer for Americans to know. Hopefully that will cut down on these spammers and if that fails, then I will put new members on Moderation before they can post.

Right now it looks like you have three new members in the moderation queue -- two relatively recent, one older -- but the queue is not activated so I'm not sure how they ended up there.

You have email confirmation activated -- but that doesn't stop professional spammers.

You also still have the ranges of IP address blocked, that Gail blocked 'back in the day'. That is what keeps most spammers at bay.

If the registration question hasn't stopped the problem, we can install a mod, such as stopforumspam -- it works quite well in my forums, by checking new registrations against the IP addresses of known spammers. It does miss some spammers, but no solution is perfect.

Ahhh...thanks for catching that Moderation Que, Brien. I didn't get a notification of new members waiting. Checked their DNS location and approved them. There must be a setting in the ADMIN panel to notify when a new member applies....have to go look for that.
