Default Asking for Asssistance Identifying Age/Functionality/Wood on this Chest

My wife purchased this small chest and we would like to know if this is truly an antique, and if so, some guesses about when it was made, area is was made, and the type of wood.
I have tried to use images to do a reverse search on the interwebs and I cannot find another chest like this with wooden wheels.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you may provide.

Default Re: Asking for Asssistance Identifying Age/Functionality/Wood on this Chest

That piece has the hallmarks of an antique, with hand-forged hinges, screws, handcut dovetails and the wood looks old. It has some unusual characteristics I have never seen before. 1) There are dowel pins in the dovetails, which weaken them considerably. Perhaps the original maker didn't like the fit of his dovetails (they are tricky) and decided to pin them. 2) the legs are screwed on, which is a fine workmanship no-no. This looks to be a country piece made by someone who had rudimentary woodworking skills and was probably a better blacksmith and a furntiture maker. I am far from an expert on these sort of things, however - always good to get more opinions.
