    Default Leathercraft Cleaning Codes

    Duane,

Do you have the definitions of the Leathercraft cleaning codes, and how they impact the upkeep of a particular leather they use?

Leather usage code: Heavy means the leather is durable? Is Heavy their top category in durable?

Here's a thread on leather cleaning. Its the same for all leathers, regardless of the manufacturer.

"Heavy" usage means w 'wipe and go' resistant to stains and spills. The trade-off there is most hides that fall into that category feel more artificial and processed. Truth is, most adult households don't need that level of use and you can move into something more moderate and get the luxury of leather while still having adequate protection.

Manufacturers err on the side of caution. They don't want to deal with irate customers who scream at them over the phone because their leather stained when the spilled a bottle of olive oil on the sofa. So they tend to 'over-label' their product. There are plenty of 'unprotected' leathers that will stand up well to most common household usage just fine. Most of us won't spill that bottle of olive oil on the sofa! I only buy the 'unprotected' leathers for my home, and we've raised two kids, have the dog, and are an average household - no problems on durability or longevity with any of the pieces.
