    Default Recliner out of balance?

Many recliners using Leggitt and Platt mechanisms can need an adjustment occasionally for tension either when fully open, or to close. Sometimes its also just a variance in the body weight from one person to another (a 115 lb woman will want settings different from a 220 lb man, for example).

To adjust most recliners, there are two thumbscrews on the bottom of the frame that you can either tighten or loosen to change the overall tension and feel on the piece. Remember that adjusting too much in one direction or for one variable will affect it in the other. Small steps when you adjust, just a few turns + or -, then try it out, and fine tune as required.

This is a photo of a Bradington Young 4114 recliner showing the thumbscrews on the base of the piece, but this same mechanism or variations of it is used in many loungers.

when ordering a replacement recliner mechanism from the local B-Y dealer - how do I identify the recliner model number? Can't find anything obvious on the chair. There is a handwritten '3659' on one of the wooden pieces, and a '3592' on the mechanism. Thanks for any help!

Usually there is no model identification on the recliner, best way is to photo the piece and get a dealer to identify it for you, and if they can't then they can email it to BY and someone at the factory can.
