I have been looking for a bed for a while and loved this one. It is the perfect style for me. Ready to purchase but was told all the Henredon stuff was now made in China. Has the quality been compromised because it was made in China? Is it still considered as decent quality?
Need to make a decision soon. Any comments will be appreciated.

Yes, Henredon is all made in China. As to quality, that's really difficult to say without a close-up, hands-on inspection. If you are OK with buying Chinese-made wood products, then its relative to price paid. I have USA makers of beds like that but you'll be $ 4K plus to get one that is benchmade. I'm guessing retail on that one is about $ 1,500 or so?
Premium beds all share these features, regardless of where they are made, or by whom:
* 100 % solid hardwood, no laminates, no softwoods.
* Rails bolt onto the posts using long bolts.
* Headboards and footboards are NOT glued to the posts.

I don't know how much you're willing to spend on a four-poster bed, but--if you're tenacious and patient--you can find a better quality, older four-poster on craigslist, or even with a reputable seller on ebay. Or, you can save your pennies and purchase a truly high quality bed: http://www.jltreharn.com/proddetail.php?prod=SB603
Here's what's on my craigslist at the moment:

Thanks Duane.
No it is actually $3K plus. I figured that since I spent 1/3 of my life on my bed I am willing to invest in it.
Is Henredon really this bad now? It was a premium brand, wasn't it?

You're welcome. Although, you know, if you have a budget of $3,000+, you might want to consider the Treharn bed Duane posted above. It would be difficult to find something as well made, even in the "high end" furniture lines. A Treharn bed is the quality of furniture that becomes a family heirloom.
Thank you, thank you.
Maybe it is just me, although I love this bed, I think it is kinda feminine.
Treharn makes other beds as well, such as the Milford Panel Bed.
As you can see from the unfortunately tiny thumbnails on the Stephen Plaud site, there are many styles of high quality 'historic reproduction'-type beds to be found.
Thank you Aaron.
From the tiny pictures, there are some really nice ones out there. Right now, I am very much into four poster beds.
