Considering leather sofa but I have a dog that sits me and am concerned about damage

I have really thin, sharp fingernails which are a pretty good proxy for my cats' claws. I can't actually rip leather with them, but I sure can scratch! It's more in the range of what would happen accidentally, rather than as a result of deliberately destructive behavior. I'm sure I could find a kitchen tool that would work, too. All of my sample are of unprotected leather -some very high end. On some, the scratches are very visible. On others, they buff out easily. Sometimes I can predict what will happen, but it still best to test.

Oh and about stains. Sometimes they fade over a few days, sometimes they don't.
