My wife and I are redoing our living room. We are interested in buying a wood framed, uphostered sofa. I would describe our taste as eclectic, but not modern. We like asian art and would probably want the wood frame to be black lacquer, and we probably be looking at the upper end of the price range. Any manufacturer/supplier recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
A lot of makers have moved to 'engineered hardwood' construction, or 'select hardwood laminates', both of which are fancy names for plywood. So they are all wood-framed, but if you are looking for SOLID wood-framed, then your pool of makers to choose from just shrank considerably. The word "solid" is the key when reading all the spec sheets.
Look at some of these websites, they are still doing all frames as solid construction:
* Councill
* Taylor King
* Hancock and Moore
* Leathercraft
* Baker

Thank you fearless leader. You certainly gave me good advice. However, I should have used more precise language for what I am looking for. I certainly want a SOLID wood-framed sofa based on your comments above. I have seen sofas that have exposed wood also described as wood-framed. That is what I am looking for. Let's call is a sofa with exposed wood--legs, the perimeter of the sofa itself, etc. Can you recommend top quality manufacturers for this type of sofa?
Those all listed above build like that. Best thing to do is browse their web sites. Here's a few I think may fit your description?

Do Southwood use solid hardwood frames? Do you think they are not of the same quality as the others you mentioned?
Yes, Southwood does use solid hardwood frames but they don't offer any contemporary or transitional styles which is why I didn't include them. Certainly there are many others not included as well.
