I know there is a tendency to rely on photos to determine color tone, and one of the things to be aware of is how different lighting will affect how a color looks - always trust the sample swatch moreso than a photo.
Here's an example.
This is a Hancock and Moore # 8392 Hampton Chair cover in Quintessence Eclipse, which is a black, butter-soft, GR 4 leather out of Germany. I took some shots outside when unpacking it, then one inside the store with a flash on my Nikon D40, then another with no flash. See how the chair looks almost grey outdoors with lots of sunlight? And the reflection of the flash on the leather makes it lighter and shiner as well. The most accurate color is indoors, no flash. So when you look at photos, please keep that in mind, the camera is not always that accurate for color tones based on the amount of light entering the lens.
