Any chance you could take a long shot of the front of the sofa with the ottoman in place and post the pic here? It would give me (and anybody else who'd like to chime in) a better idea, I think, of how the sofa "sits" in the room. Is the room really big?
Another great rug site (below). Pricey, but if you're persistent, you can find a good deal here. If you keep moving through the pages, there are quite a few "bargain" rugs for less than $1500. The owner of the shop wrote a book on oriental rugs. He's very highly regarded in the oriental rug world.

Also: Best price for Karastans on the internet (that I've been able to find):

I will try and snap one tomorrow. It is just hard because I don't have a super wide angle lens, so it is hard to get a realistic idea of distance, and even the whole sofa in the frame from where I would have to stand.
The room over all is big, because it is like a main living area/kitchen/dining, etc. But the actual living area, where the sofa is located is maybe 18 x 18(give or take a few feet).
You might be able to get an idea with these pics.

There is probably about 10'-12 from the tv console to the front edge of the sofa
Thanks! There are a couple of ways you could go here, it seems to me.
1) A rug under the ottoman only, and then perhaps a complementary runner leading to the door; or
2) A large rug under the entire sofa and ottoman.
I'm beginning to think that the second option would be best, since it would "ground" the sitting area. The only problem that I envision with this option is that you would need a rather large rug. Would an 8x10 do the job? 8x11? Or would you need a 9x12? A larger rug would probably make the cost of a handknotted rug prohibitively expensive, but a Karastan would be doable with a budget of $2,000.
Can you move the sofa a little further to the left a couple of feet (looking at the next-to-llast pic) so that it lines up with the window frame and doesn't quite block the pathway to the door?

I have almost 50" between the sofa and that wall/window. I could certainly move it over I have it there now because the sofa edge lines up with the tv console edge on both sides.
If I went with a rug for the whole area how much rug would be adequate sticking out of the rear of the sofa, and also how far forward would it need to go.

See that second grout line behind the back of the sofa? I think that would be a good guideline. The fact that you have tile makes it much easier to measure--it's like you have a built-in grid! If you go big for the rug, you might want to go lighter rather than darker so that the set-up doesn't look too heavy. My concern about having a rug just under the ottoman is that it might make the whole set-up look "boxy" and too self-contained--does that make sense?
This pic kind of shows its relation to the door line. Are you suggesting moving the sofa forward a little to the window edge? Or just towards the door more?

I'm thinking something like this (if you go with wool, which is always more durable than synthetic--thinking of the dogs here). Cost for the large: $2000 or under.

Or even this:

Karastan also, however, has well-made nylon rugs for half the price, but I've never seen them in person, so I can't vouch for density or appearance:

Roger that. There is a good deal more room then that shows but moving it forward towardsa the tv might be an option.
I am at the gym walking my life away on a treadmill lol but when I get home I will see if I can scetch something in Photoshop and see if that is what you are thinking as far as rug size.
I know Duane had mentioned not going too crazy with an expensive rug to just cover it.
Also it looks as if karastan does custom offerings? Do they come and measure the area and tailor the shape? If I went just under the Ottoman maybe they could match the curve of the sofa to eliminate the boxyness.
