Re: Joe needs a Desk
That chair for $ 900? A steal.....
You know, I had a preconceived notion of how the Federal Government buys things, and like most preconceived notions - it was wrong. They'd not hesitate to buy off EBAY in a blink, though they may need someone like myself to act as an intermediary because of contract laws and I'd be allowed to put a small mark up on it.
They shop the price hard. Much harder than one would think. They are not above buying closeouts or used pieces for the offices, either. You think that its hard for a husband and wife to pick out a leather? Try getting thirty people to sign off on one! We waited weeks on end for the color decision after the frames and leather series were locked in. I had to finally give them a 'drop dead' date of picking one or we could not get the pieces to them by their mandated installation time. And delivery charges don't wash at all...they have to be included in the price. All-in-all though, they were very easy to work with once we got beyond color selection situation.
I did a lot of furniture for Sony Studios for the Mel Gibson Movie "The Patriot". Much of what you see in the film came from my store and was special ordered. Talk about difficult to work with! The Feds are MUCH easier. I'm not sure that I would agree to another movie studio contract job....
