If you browse craigslist, you will inevitably find people who confuse themselves with furniture stores, giving a MSRP for something they purchased any number of years ago and expecting you to pay half (or more) of MSRP for their used furniture - that is, to pay pretty much what they did but to provide your own delivery.
My wife was looking at craigslist recently, and seeing the browser open to its pages I said, "What the heck," and took a look at some recent furniture listings FSBO. My favorite was a hideous, shapeless, broken-down, red suede love seat. No indication of manufacturer. Asking price $4,050. And in the description, an announcement to prospective buyers that it needs to be steam cleaned:
Because, yeah, I want your overpriced, broken-down, hideous cast-offs so badly that you shouldn't feel any need to clean them first.
