Hey everyone!
I just got a new condo and I'm looking for an area rug. I have hardwood floors and a chestnut brown sectional leather sofa. I'm stuck on my decision between;
- Sexto Merino wool rug - http://www.sheepskinfurs.com/sheepsk...pskin-rug.html
I absolutely love merino rugs, you just cannot get a nicer rug fabric..however I have a dog that sheds so I'm a little worried about keeping it clean.
- Home Dynamix area rug http://www.amazon.com/Home-Dynamix-N...7065441&sr=8-6
I like the design really and the price is right..I imagine it'll be flimsy though
- Karastan http://www.decorarugs.com/Karastan_A...2106-27624.htm
I just love the design here again but there's no substance to it..I'm thinking 5'7" x 7'11" but then the price goes crazy high.
Thoughts?!
Karastan makes a decent rug for factory-made, they tend to be durable and long lasting as well as hold their colors well.
Not sure on the other two!

Wow... .those are some interesting choices!
Hard to go wrong with the Karastan rug.... $1400 is a decent price for 8 X 10...
We've had a Karastan wool rug for ten years, and it's still in great shape..
I agree with Duane. For a machine-made rug, you cannot do any better than a Karastan. They wear like iron (and come with a 20-year warranty). I have two 5'7" x 7'11" Karastan rugs, but I bought them new off ebay--for far less than retail (even on sale). I know I paid less than $500/each. These are the two I purchased--from the "English Manor" collection (first two photos below). If you don't want to purchase off ebay, that size Karastan can be found retail for less than $700 (at least, in this collection). For example, at Peerless Rugs: http://www.peerlessrugs.com/Karastan/rug/3341 Peerless has, in general, very good prices on all Karastans.
Otherwise, I would strongly recommend that you try to find a good deal on a handknotted rug. I've purchased a couple of rugs from these folks (during a 30% off sale, which they are offering now). You might be able to find one in your budget that you like: http://www.themagiccarpet.biz/ I also have become friendly over the years with a local oriental rug dealer. He's Iranian and has the most exquisite rugs, most of which I can't afford. But I purchased a small (3x5) handknotted Iranian Kashan from him at a steal (less than $400), which you can see at the end of my bed, under the small ottoman (last photo below). And these days, you can even find more contemporary designs in handknotted rugs.
