Starting to think I have insulted the forum by asking my question. My point was to find out if this was a good site to ask about two pieces of furniture i have recently obtained.

I don't think you've insulted anyone. The trouble with asking if this is a good place to ask the questions is that, without seeing the questions, nobody reading this knows if they can answer them or not so they just don't say anything. So ask away - maybe even upload a pic or two - and I bet someone will chime in.

Ummmmm....well.....you have to ask a question to get an answer.

Attached are two photo's. The first one is a dresser from the 50's or 60's. Made by J.B. Van Seiver Co. The dresser has a couple of minor issues, but mostly in good shape, paid 300.00. I think i got a good deal.
The second photo is a wall unit i think from the 70's. It is made out of heavy composite wood and painted. The left unit folds out into a desk, with compartments inside. I paid 150.00 for unit, it is in great shape.

Just wanted to know what people think of these two items.

Joe - where did you buy these? Just curious...

I love the dresser. The wall unit doesn't really suit my taste as much, but I can certainly see how it would be very functional.

I enjoy learning about furniture styles and manufacturers posted on the forum. This post piqued my interest and I found the following information about J. B. Van Sciver's family history and furniture company. See http://www.dvrbs.com/People/CamdenPe...BVanSciver.htm

I bought the dresser from this mid century place, here in Raleigh, N.C. It is worth checking out if you are in this area.

The wall unit I did some barter work for, the three sections were too long for my small house, so I took out a section. I think it looks better.

Also on the wall unit I raised the top shelfs to the very top, looks more finished. I know it is kind of funky, but in place with things on it, with desk lid lowered and a nice period chair, it is very cool.
