    Default Broken B-Y recliner mechanism

I have a 12 year old B-Y recliner with a high style three way mechanism. One of the rivets has broken. Do you think this is a Leggett & Platt mechansim? Can you purchase and replace the rivet or do I replace the mechanism? Is it cost effective to replace the mechanism? Where could you purchase these items?
    Thanks

    Hi Jerry,

Yes, you will want to buy a new mechanism. Currently they are a little over $ 100, and you can get directly from Bradington Young by calling 704-435-5881 and pressing "2" for parts and service. Its a L&P mechanism being that age, but you will need the model number of your recliner as there are different sizes and models. You can install it yourself if you're handy (about 90 minutes) or a pro upholsterer can do it in about 45 minutes. If they won't sell you direct, ping me and I can get the mechanism for you.

Thanks for your information. I will call tomorrow. I can not find the model number for the recliner. The following number is on a tag on the mechanism 1232133 with Made in USA.

That number probably won't help, be prepared to take a few digital photos of the chair so it can possibly be identified.

I have a similar issue with a B-Y recliner I purchased in 1992. The reclining mechanism will not lock the chair back in place. I remember reading on this forum that with very old B-Y chairs, this part may still be covered under warranty. The style of the chair is #1521.

On a 23-year-old recliner they will not have parts, and the warranty on mechanisms is three years. Mechanisms have changed since yours was made. Generally any recliner over ten to twelve years old will not have replacement parts available. If you got that much use out of yours then you got your money's worth. Time for a whole new chair!
