Re: Rate Increase to Remote Regions / Rate Reduction to Popular Regions

As many of our long term customers know, some years ago, Sun Delivery made a commitment to our customers to become a full service carrier, thus providing the highest quality of in home white glove service to every zip code in the Continental United States. And, for the years since, we have held true to that commitment regardless of circumstances.

In today’s economic climate, we find ourselves doing more micro-managing in all facets of our business and one of the things that glares at us is the cost of serving many of these remote regions of the country. Within the past year, we had one delivery truck that had twenty six hours of drive time for five stops spread out hundreds of miles apart. The loss exceeded $400 per stop and yet, because of our commitment, we provided the service. And that is just one example. There are many others that have created similar losses.

To combat this, we are going to increase our rates to the thirteen least popular two digit zip codes we serve. These thirteen zip codes account for less than 2% of the total traffic handled by our company. Those areas include the Dakotas, the UP of Michigan, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and others similar. The increase for these thirteen remote zip codes will be 35%. At the same time, we have taken fourteen of the most popular two digit zip codes which account for over 55% of our total traffic and we will reduce those rates by 2%. The reduced areas will include New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami, etc. The net result for all customers should be either a wash or even a slight reduction in your overall freight bill with our company. The only exception would be any customer who ships heavy into the remote regions but at this time, we have no customers who are strong into the Dakotas, the Upper Mid-West, or Northern Rockies.

If there are questions or concerns regarding these changes, please let us know. These changes are set to take place on November 1st, 2011.

We appreciate your understanding and more importantly, your allowing us the privilege of partnering with your company as a provider of in home delivery service. My assurance to you is that we will always endeavor 100% to give you a consistently higher level of white glove service than any legitimate competitor in this business.
