Hi Duane,
Saw 9840 City Sofa in Cavalier Mocha at local store, seems to be quite nice.
couple questions:
reading your post, the frame is as good as other main catalog lines, but the leather is import, what about leather quality? are they not as good as domestic ones, how big is the difference?
Is 9840 8 way hand tie? could not find info on H&M website
found 9844 is a larger one n web (93 in vs 83 in) which would be a better one for our living room, but is it in the promotion program? would it be much more expensive?
appreciate your insights.
BTW, gonna pm you for a quote as well.
Correct, the frame is the standard chassis as used in all H&M products made in the USA at their Hickory NC Frame Plant. The Town and Country program uses the same build standards and components and is made by the same craftspeople as the main catalog line pieces. Even the covers are in the regular line as GR 2 leathers.
All leather is imported with the exception of one of the buffalo hides. Some comes from China, a lot from Italy and South America. There is no domestic leather - most all USA tanneries were closed by 2008 due to stringent OSHA and EPA requirements.
Yes, the # 9840 is 8-way Hand-Tied.
# 9844 is the larger version of the # 9840 and is not offered in the Town and Country Program, sorry. On that sofa you will buy in standard leather grades 1 through 5.

thank you Duane.
9840 in T&C program is priced in the range of BRY's sofa, would you consider H&M slightly better quality.
is the Calvalier Mocha protected leather?
also, what are the top 3 selling sofas for H&M last year?
thanks

ah..found on H&M website that Cavalier Mocha is protected.
Hancock and Moore is superior to Bradington Young.
Cavalier is a semi-aniline, so its a dyed hide with a protective clear topcoat added.
I dont know H&M's top sellers to be certain, but I would think the 9840 City and 8134 / 8138 Austin series are two of the top sellers.

so other than the two colors, there is really no other options for 9840 city sofa (in T&C), is that correct? (ie, with Ultra Down cushion etc)
thanks
The T&C Program is always a 2-tier promotion. There is a lead leather which is always called 'married cover' (in many cases its not a married cover, but it falls under that heading nonetheless). This will have one or two, sometimes three colorways. The the second tier is higher-priced and in the other colors. In the 9840 sofa, the "Married Covers" are Cavalier Henna and Cavalier Mocha at Price "X". Then the second tier is any other color Cavalier at "X + 20%" (in this model).
You can do several mods and still be in T&C. You can change cushion cores, add pillows, add or delete or change nail trim, and change the wood finish.
