    Default Haverty Cagney Sofa?

Hi, my wife and I are looking for a leather sofa and loveseat to replace 13 year old worn Italian distressed leather set in our family room. She likes the Haverty Cagney sofa; which has almost all positive 11 reviews on the Haverty website (http://www.havertys.com/Product_4316...4#wheretoseeit). I'm not sold yet as my impression is as with one of the reviews that is is beautiful but not comfortable, the leather is hard and slick. Presumably this is a temporary issue that could be overcome with time. The piece is made in China and the best price the Haverty salesperson will give us is $1629 for the sofa and $1502 for the loveseat. I was used to the comfort and plushness of our previous set. Appreciate your advice on whether I should worry about the hard/slick issue and whether this is a reasonably valued purchase, if not, what might you recommend?

I'm not too surprised to see only positive reviews on a maker's web site!

If the leather is hard and slick its likely to remain that way. At that price point you'll be getting a painted or finished leather and its not going to soften up with time to any noticeable measure. Haverty is a step above Ashley, but certainly pretty far from being in the class of better-made goods in the industry.

Of course I am biased towards the brands I sell in my store, and I'm all about Made-in-the-USA, so the ones I would point you towards will be higher price points by about 25% than what you're shopping. Take a look at Bradington Young for something better than Haverty, and you'll need to get into the Bentley Place leather collection (GR 2) or higher to get a decent hide.

    Good luck on your quest.

The Bradington Young Dietrich is a similar style but Made in USA and better quality.

It's likely more expensive but I'd rather know I helped give people in North Carolina a job than the Chinese.

Appreciate your thoughts on this set on Barileather.com; it is made in US:
