Interesting that we are looking at the same line. we found a jonathan charles coffee table at a local store, and we were pretty impressed. a snap shot of the table from their website is like this (you need create an account to view their catalog online).

the sales told me the top is mahogany veneer over solids, and the rest all solid hardwood.

clearly the sales isn't knowledgeable enough! the website says it's rustic walnut (what rustic means here?). I remember Duane said walnut is rarely used now because it has to be bleached before stain. But can you tell if this coffee table in walnut is made in the right way? I looked the drawer, and it looks the dovetails are nicely cut, and overall an impressive piece.

the store put a price tag of $1600 on this (list price $3000), which I think is just a realistic price. I do worry about the wood now though.
