Hi
So I was at an Amish furniture place over thanksgiving seeing if there was anything I liked. I actually saw a glass front bookshelf -- 2 of which acting as built ins might do better than a media center. Unfortunately, the construction was very mid tier (glass doors rubbed badly. Feet attached with screws. 2k for said construction). The wood was rustic cherry, which is quite liked, though tiger would look better. So anyone know of any nice glass front bookshelves in the realm of 77" high 48" wide. Do we think john Buchanan could build 2 of those in 4k ish realm. Or would it be running up much higher?
Hmm, messing with this with a pad and pencil, kindof shows this arrangement to be unworkable. It's too bad, some panelled barrister, or sliding door bookcases would make a really nice look. Maybe in some other configuration.
77" x 48" W is a BIG piece of furniture and will be quite heavy with glass. I don't think my guys would want to tackle that and quite frankly we've done them in the past and they are headaches. The glass doors are so heavy that is stresses all the other components and door alignment / frame structure are always a challenge to keep aligned and stout.

Just poking around, I do like this barrister bookcase. In general I prefer furniture with feet, but thinking about the details, matching furntirue with lots of different ogee feet styles could lead to distracting the eye. Lots of advanced stuff going on in matching traditional furniture. It would be so much easier if I could use the modern stuff, but its just not right for my house.
That's a good looking piece and that fact the doors lift UP takes off a huge amount of stress off the case.
