    Default Custom Furniture

New poster to the site, wanting to see how long everyone else has been creating or building their own furniture. Whether it is an OCD condition or me being a scrooge with spending money, I can never seem to buy furniture.

"It would be cheaper for me to just build that" is the quote i always find myself saying and is the start for many disagreements between my gf and I. In a toast to this, I love seeing pieces that other people have built for themselves.

If any of you have pieces you would like to show, be my guest!

    Enjoy.

I didn't quite build a piece from scratch but picked up a solid wood credenza, made in the USA, and proceeded to turn it into a coastal piece with various soft layers of paints and finishes. I really love it. It came out looking almost like metal. It seems to be a cross between contemporary and coastal. What do you think?

I like the finish you did. Care to share the steps taken and colors used?

Thank you! I used some creams and greiges and turned them into chalk paint by adding plaster and water. I scrubbed with wire brushes and sanded in between coats. For the finish on this one I used polycrylic layers. The photos give this piece a more yellow look but it's really very soft and tonal in regular light. Oh, I also buffed the brass hardware...
