Thank you for explaining that. I guess it's about time I PM you to see if I can even fit some of this fine furniture into my budget or if I'm just dreaming.
I am a numbers guy and enjoy thinking through manufacturing processes. If the delta between US & China labor is ~$17/hr which results in a price premium for US of $360/sofa, then the labor hours to place a precut hide onto a sofa frame is ~21 hours. Interesting...that is more labor hours than I would have expected.
20 hours is probably about right to mark, cut and sew an average sofa hide based on what I have seen at the factory. There is quite a bit of labor to do it all, and those welt trims that look like nothing on the pieces are a big chunk of not only material but labor to sew. You don't realize how much until you see them cutting them out in the hides and then working them at the sewing machines. It's still a hand-labor business, no computers and nothing automated in that part of it.

We are coming into the home stretch finishing up this sale period and its been VERY busy. Most phone calls are going to voice mail and I have to call you back, sorry.
Tomorrow, the 26th is going to be the LAST DAY for any custom frame mods and quotes. The Production Factory at H&M is closed on Friday at H&M so there is no one to compute them FRI/SAT/SUN and Tuesday the 3rd is the last day of the sale. We will simply run out of time to do any custom quotes after tomorrow.
I am normally closed on Mondays, but will plan on working all day on Monday the 2nd as I know there will be many calls at the end of this promotion and last minute orders. There will not be any sale period extensions beyond close of business (5:30 pm Eastern) on 03/03/15.
Thanks!
