duane your opinion on purchashing a accidently defective leather sofa?

i'm thinking about a purchasing a "close out/clearance" loveseat that was a prototype.
the seller who i think is trustworthy was honest with me and told me that the sofa was made accidently with their grade 3 leather(description says top full grain leather that is aniline-dyed) that ended up failing what she called the scotch tape test. which i assume was just sticking scotch tape on it and some peel came off. she said it was fixed by hand wiping it, which i'm not exactly sure what that means. can peeling leather really be turned back to normal by just wiping it with some kind of spray/chemicals?

for a brand new version of this sofa with all the options it would have would cost like $1k more. the frame construction everything else is fine. is a bad idea to consider purchasing this?

Not necessarily. I am very careful with strong packing tape around ANY kind of leather as it can pull the finish off, not necessarily all the finish but enough to alter the appearance.
