I’m in the market for a new sofa. I bought a cheap sofa from a chain furniture store for $600. Needless to say it didn’t last long. My boyfriend is a larger guy (6’4 300lb) and after having the sofa for 3 months he sat down on it we heard a loud crack and realized the sofa was done. We realized the frame was made out of some cheap processed wood product. One of the front support boards cracked right down the middle! I had/have no idea what to look for in upholstery. I am in school part-time and don’t make much money around 40k, my budget is up to $1800. What is the best quality sofa I can get for that price? I’m open to all brands and models just something I can get years (8-10 hopefully) NOT months of use. I don’t think I’ll be able to afford leather, anyone have any idea as to other durable fabrics?

Unfortunately, that's what you are going to get on that $ 600 price range. And with your B/F at 6' 4". 300 lb you need a well-made piece, especially if he is prone to plopping down hard in it. if you were in my store, I'd direct you to the Taylor King Portfolio Collection (Taylor Made) in a GR 1 Fabric. That will get you to your target price and maybe a little under, and it should easily go 8 to 10 years on the cover, even longer on the frame. I've never had a frame or suspension failure on a Taylor King - ever.
