    Default Little help needed in deciding what to buy

    I need a simple study desk that would be around 45x30 (width x depth). After a lot of search on the internet I do not find any to my liking. So I have decided to build my own by buying separate table top and table under-frame. I am planning to buy a table top of my preferred size from Amazon and table under-frame from Ikea (see links to the products below). Has anyone attempted doing this? What was your experience like? Does it work out? How do I fix the legs to the table here?

    For table top see : http://www.amazon.com/Flash-Furnitur...VSN1C5R7Z4C4SK

    For underframe see: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10252912/

    I have to assemble it this way because the other tables from Ikea/Amazon/Walmart/etc. are either too short or too long. The table top is just the right size and the frame is just what I want under the top.

    EDIT: Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong section. But my question is really about will these things fit together? And this subforum looked the right one for it.

    The IKEA table top has nutserts in it already that stick up above the frame. What I would do if is make a large paper template of where those are on the base, move it over to the bottom of the top and drill holes in the top about 3/8" deep, not deep enough to penetrate, where all those inserts are located. Use a piece of masking tape on your drill bit to as a depth stop marker. Then simply gravity fit the top, it will stay on. No need to penetrate the top all the way through. Be sure your template is accurate. Measure three times, drill once.

    If you want a bolted arrangement, then use nutserts into the top and screw to the frame, just lightly tighten them so they don't cam out.

    @drcollie
    Thanks for the reply. In the first sentence are you talking about the IKEA underframe and not the table top, right?
