My wife and I are considering purchasing some leather furniture. Our budget has informed us that we will most likely have to purchase used. We are not necessarily in a hurry, and we want something that withstand a lot of use (we have 3 kids).
Here on the forums, almost everyone talks about Hancock and Moore, Leather Craft, and Bradington and Young as being the top 3 furniture makers.
Since we are most likely going to buy used (and may have a hard time finding these particular brands), are there any other furniture manufacturers that make durable furniture we should look at?
Also, while we are looking at used furniture, what are some of the things we should look for in order to make sure that the furniture is in good condition?
Thanks.
Patience is the key to buying used high-quality leather. Keep watching Craigslist, and here for that matter (what city/state do you live in?).
Its fairly ease to determine wear and tear. Obviously the outer cover you can see for yourself. How far do you sink in the sofa? Good pieces you do not.....are the cushion cores resilient? They should be. Are the arms loose on the piece?
If you can find the high quality pieces someone wants to sell, you'll be way ahead of the game vs. lesser brands. The good stuff has a much longer life span.
