    Default Asian hardwood from Vietnam

We are about to purchase a very nice looking, cherry stain, Asian hardwood table from Jordan's Furniture.
It is distributed by Aspen and the wood is from Vietnam.
This a dining room table with chairs that will probably be used 3 or 4 times a year and the price is $1500.

Does anyone have experience with Asian hardwood? I have read that it is the wood of retired rubber trees and has the hardness of cherry.

I have attached a picture of the table.

    Thanks!
    Greg

There are thousands of species of wood, its impossible to know what species that is unless they tell you. Each wood has its own characteristics, of course.

Hi Greg, I have done a lot of research on Asian hardwoods--aka parawood, rubberwood. The price point seems hard to beat, however I decided against buying any furniture made out of this wood, because it is my understanding that this wood has to be heavily treated with insecticides, as it is highly prone to insect infestation. I do not want those kind of chemicals in my home. I bought 100% North American hardwood table and chairs and am very pleased--cost more, but it will last longer, and health is priceless.
