My winter project
I like to fix up old motorcycles out in the garage, and picked up this old BMW R75/5 from 1973. It doesn't run, the carbs are stuck and it needs some TLC. Only 27K original miles, which for a 43-year-old motorcycle is pretty good. These old BMW's are affectionately known as 'Airheads' and have a very dedicated following. In its day, this was BMW's top-of-the line motorcycle, but it looks small and dwarfed by my 2014 R1200GS in front of it. And it IS small !
First order of the day, get the two carburetors un-stuck. This bike sat for over 8 years, and the prior owner never drained the fuel, just parked it. This is what a carb looks like when you do that, full of a black mucky varnish that takes a few hours to clean up.
After I get the carbs rebuilt, I'll pop in a new battery and points/plugs/condensor and see if it runs!
