Default Any suggestion on how to refresh old wooden dining table ?

I have a 6 seater wooden dining table. I want to refresh the look without painting or varnishing it. All this time I have been covering it with a table cover but is there any other thing I could do without any use of paint? Thanks.

I guessed the only way if you do not want to use any means of covering the table, varnishing is the best way to go. Other things you can consider is to restore it. Here is some of the ideas. http://www.instructables.com/id/How-...blesFurniture/

    Hi, maryannj.

Without knowing the specifics, it's a bit difficult to make suggestions. Is the table's finish damaged? Do you know what the current/original finish is?

Depending on the piece I'm working with, I often use Briwax. It comes in several color tones. It requires some elbow grease, but I always love the results. Also, somewhere in this forum, I believe Duane posted about a product he recommends.

Have to see what the table looks like now, a detailed photo set is the key taken with a real camera that can focus well and show several angle shots. There are ways to 'freshen up' a finish without getting into a full on re-finish, first have to see what we are dealing with.

P.S. TXCajun: Briwax is nasty stuff! Don't breathe in too much of that Toluene!

    Duane,

You got it! I use their toluene-free line.

    Hey guys,

Thanks for your suggestion. Don't have a real camera. This is what I can get. Perhaps I go with TXCajun suggestion and see what I can turn it into.

That does not appear to be a real wood top, to me it looks to be a formica-like product, as wood veneer is not usually finished to an edge like that. And the fact that the legs and vertical sides have marks in them but the top does not further leads me to that conclusion. However, I can't say for sure. Assuming it is, then you don't need to refinish the wood areas, just touch them up with a marker the same color, and spray a coat of satin of flat lacquer on them - wipe the areas down with mineral spirits first. Lightly steel wool afterwards with '0000'. Good luck.

    maryannj,

Thanks for posting the photo. Briwax isn't what you need for that table. I'd follow drcollie's recommendation.

Almost looks brand new, I like it.

What chairs do you have to accompany it? Are you planning on treating them too? I'd be interested to see the end result.
