Default New furniture, how long can I expect to smell that new leather?

You know when you get that new leather furniture into your house ... the room picks up that nice new-leather-furniture scent. I like it. And I'm wondering how long it will last?

/if it matters, this is a H&M member sofa, chair and ottoman in chestnut document leather that I impulsively bought off the floor ... very good looking and comfortable stuff.

    Thanks!

/by "bought off the floor" I should add that it had been in the furniture store for awhile (perhaps a couple of months if the salesman was honest). Cosmetically in perfect condition.

Wow! There's a first...never had that question before! I would think that a large part will have to do with how much cooking you do in the house and how close the sofa is to the kitchen. Kitchen odors can be pretty powerful, as well as pet odors.

I can tell you that in my store, where the environment is equal for all leathers, that the finished hides (like your Document) will have that leather aroma for about 4 to 5 months before it fades somewhat. The Aniline hides seem to keep it for about three years in comparison.

Certainly those are not scientific numbers, just my general observations.

Yes, quite an obscure question ... but that's what the internets are for after all, right?

And thanks for the reply Duane, I expect that nice new furniture will succumb to my wife's cooking and my 2 labrador's smells rather quickly (unfortunately)!

I suspect I already know the answer to this question will be "no" ... but is there anyway to restore that "new leather smell" after it goes away? (some type of treatment, etc)

/pic attached in case anyone is searching for a picture of hancock and moore member sofa chestnut document leather this was taken in the furniture store, with the flash off, the color is very accurate to real life.

I guess you can try some of this? Perhaps put some on a cloth and place it under the deck cushions? I've never used it.....let us know if it works!
