    Default Modular sectional

I came across this sectional at costco: http://imgur.com/a/BvFPB and my wife and I really liked it. Is there a good manufacturer that makes something similar?

There are lots of sectionals out there and prices will swing wildly on them. Having a single seat return like that one does is not very popular, however. You can find hundreds of different makers substantially better than the junk Costco sells, defining a budget range is a good place to start narrowing them all down.

What brands should we look at in the 3 to 5k range?

The only thing I would have - and it would at the upper tier of that budget - would be the Taylor Made program in a base fabric and standard depth

If you like the modern, modular look, you might want to look into Room and Board. It's not as high quality as anything the Keeping Room sells, but I believe they pride themselves on American sourcing and construction. They sell a lot of mid-century modern/Scandanavian style furniture. A bit too modern for me, but seems like they would have a lot of similar pieces to the sectional you posted. Prices should be well within that range as well.
