    Default Blanket chest

    I'm looking for a blanket chest for a colonial. Something traditional. Leads? Ideas? Scouring CL, but in the meantime...

    How exotic do you want to go? A proper and traditional blanket chest has dovetailed joints, usually a couple drawers and sometimes a motif on the front, usually made of hardwoods. Those can run around $ 3K for one well-made. Then of course, they can always be done cheaper. Good ones are quite handsome, I have one in my house that was built in the 1980's and several people have wanted to buy it over the years. Looks like this, but with the decorative features less bold:

    Then you can get into the wonderful antique Wythe County Blanket chests, that can sell for up to $ 100K.

    Do you want just a flip top lid? You can find nice ones of those pretty often. Or do you want one with drawers like Duane showed? They will be tougher to find.
