    Happy to resize if these aren't showing.
    I did front and side views of the recliner in its upright, tilted and fully reclined positions since I was not able to find similar views online.
    Can't see my caption very well but this recliner does have the articulated footrest bit that slides out when you tilt back.

    Yes, the arms are comfortable. There is padding on the arms: seat-side, the armrests are plump and the top is cushioned. It's not like resting your arm on a board, there's some padding there.

    The arms create good geometry for holding a book. My couch has taller rolled arms and it's nice for sitting casually (prop your elbow up, kind of like in a car with the window rolled down) but to read (book on lap) I have to scoot away from the armrest to allow my arm to rotate (and elbow to stick out). Maybe that's just MY geometry! On the recliner, with the lower arm rest, it's not an issue.
