Default Hancock & Moore Desk Chair: $600???

Hi. Someone is selling a H&M leather desk chair on my local Craigslist. They said they purchased it new for $600. That seems rather low to me? I'm thinking it might be a typo, and should actually read $1600. What do you think--is this really a H&M? Sorry for the goofy pics--can't seem to figure out how to turn them rightside-up.

They sure didn't buy that new for under $ 1,000.00, I can tell you that. It looks like a Hancock and Moore, but to see for sure there will be a label glued to the bottom of the chair. $ 1,600 is more the going rate.....

Thanks for the info, Duane. What confuses me is that she said she bought it at Ethan Allen 8-10 years ago. Does--or did--Ethan Allen sell H&M?

A friend of mine is interested in it. So all we have to do is look for a label on the underside of the seat?

If seh got it at Ethan Allen, then its probably Ethan Allen. To my knowledge they never sold H&M. Ask your seller to send you a photo of the underside of the chair before you make the trip to go see it is my suggestion. Lets see what is on the labels.

    Here it is (see pics).

One more question. It was in storage for 7 years, and it looks like some of the brass tacks have oxidized. Can those be cleaned up with regular brass cleaner? If you click on the second photo, you can see what I mean.

Interesting! I have to say, I'm not really sure. All brass can be cleaned up, its just a matter of how hard it will be. If its coated, its going to be hard to do. If uncoated, much easier. In any case, the brass cleaner will damage the leather so one has to have a very fine steady hand or else I would remove the brads (half dozen at a time) and polish them off the chair - or simply replace them with new.
