Default Used (but comfy) Bradington Young Recliners

    Hey Forum Experts,

We found some older B&Y Recliners on Craigslist a few years back, and bought the set of 2 for $40. While they are a little rough, they're incredibly comfy and the recliner mechanisms still work. As these were starter chairs until we could buy real furniture, this was a total steal. Since then I've learned a lot about B&Y, and I thought I'd seek some wisdom from the community.

    1. Does anyone know the name of this style of chair? I can't find it on the internet.
    2. The mechanisms are a little tough to close, and one of them is slightly bent. How easy is it to repair/replace the mechanism? Is it worth touching them?
    3. The leather is a finished leather according to the tag. The chairs are a taupe-ish color, but they appeared VERY dirty and black. I spent a few hours scrubbing them clean, until they were more of a smooth beige color. At some point I lifted the seat cushion only to find a swatch that was also taupe but with lots of black mixed in. Was this an "aged" leather look once upon a time, and did I ruin it with my scrubbing? I'll attach the swatch picture in the next post.

    Thanks

Picture of the "dirty" looking or "aged" swatch from under the cushion.

For price paid, use them until the mechanism completely fails and then toss them is my advice. Those are very old and not worth putting money into.

    Hahaha. That's probably great advice!

I have to say, when we moved into our house - we had more bedrooms than we could fill with furniture. So stumbling across two of these for $40 (including delivery), was a great find. I can't imagine how old these things are, but for a room that gets little use - they're remarkably comfy chairs.

I'm not sure if the swatch picture is visible now (I just re-uploaded it). But it looks like the factory leather was a blackened taupe - was (or is) that a thing? Or did the swatch get dirty too?

I have no idea. I deal with thousands of leathers that come and go every 6 months - between my suppliers I have there are currently 800 hides of or so - I can't even recall current leathers much less something that was made years ago.

To me that swatch just looks dirty too. $40 though is a great steal.
