    Default H&M Recliner Question

Can the H&M manual recliner mechanism have the foot rest stop any place between fully closed and fully open? I'm looking to replace a 30 yr old manual La-Z-Boy which stops at 2 positions before the foot rest is fully open.

    Thanks...

Only if you get a motorized unit. On a manual unit you would have to "balance" it on the springs, there are no detents.

Thanks for the info. That is what I have seen with the manual chairs I've sat in. In your experience, what do recommend to your customers, manual or power recliners? Do more people seem to be ordering power chairs?

I was also hoping to get your opinion of the H&M Miller (#7017) recliner vs. the Bradington-Young (#3020) Huss recliner. They look similar on paper, but I have been unable to see a Huss chair in person at any of our local dealers.

As always, thanks so much for your advice.

I think generally the recommendation is for the power if you are ok with the extra charge as they are more reliable than the manual mechanism.

Always power on a Wall Hugger unit - Always.

For conventional recliners, whatever you like. Power costs a little more, however you can stop it anywhere in the range. Downside of that is its slower to close than a manual. It may sound odd, but many people don't want to wait the 3 seconds for one to close up vs the snap-close of a manual in about 1 second.

In my store I have the B-Y Huss and H&M Miller right new to one another. Both are about the same size, sit similarly, pitch angles about the same, etc. Can't go wrong with either one. H&M will be a higher price.

Thanks again for your response. I will take a closer look at the B-Y Huss; however, I'm still leaning towards a H&M recliner.

H&M builds the best recliner in the market.
B-Y has a great value in their recliners.

What's the difference? Its not function, and its not really even too much the way they sit (though they do sit differently). It's more the details in the build (Tailoring, Construction, Fit, etc) and that H&M will always give you replacement cores at no charge, with a stronger warranty. Is that difference worth about 30% more in price? That's the question you have to answer.

    Great info, as always!

Another question, when choosing a leather for a recliner, should that leather be protected? If the recliner has unprotected leather, does the motion of the recliner cause it to wear prematurely?

Also, I recently had a chance to look at B-Y leathers. Are the Gr 3 Aniline leathers protected at all? Are they top coated with a finish or wax? What is your opinion of them, specifically #918700-88 (Winchester) or 917400-87 (Academy)?

Thanks for any advice you can provide.
