Thread: Single back cushion vs bustle back?

Default Single back cushion vs bustle back?

Hi and thank you for this amazing forum! I'm in the process of selecting new furniture for our living room. I think I've decided on a sofa, but I'm having trouble picking out the other items. I'd like to find a leather recliner for the room as well, but I'm attracted to the more modern styles. One thing I've noticed is that a lot of the modern style recliners have a single back cushion. I prefer the looks of a single, but I'm worried about it becoming flat or slouched over time. I assume the bustle backs hold their shape better and will look better long term. Is that true?

Bustle backs are all about comfort - they are the best for most people in that regard. Take a look at a split back unit, that is sort of in-between. Not as much bustle, and yet really good on comfort. Hancock and Moore Manning & Monaco units are good examples of that. Single cushion backs tend to "pocket" a bit more with use and time.
