Pottery Barn Sofa Vs King Hickory - Help Please!!

Hi,

We are looking to furnish our new home and visited a lot of furniture stores to buy sofas that both look good and long last (with kids) with no luck so far. We went to Pottery Barn to take advantage of their 30% off promotion and got a quote for a custom order. So far so good but after coming home did some research on PB and found lots of negative reviews. There seem to be very few positive experiences with PB furniture. Now we are stuck again. We are trying to decide between these two -

Cameron Square Arm Upholstered Sofa

Can you please let me know your thoughts on the above?

Pottery Barn does not make their own furniture, they contract out all their pieces among several suppliers. Who knows the quality from one to another? Unless you can either see how its made be looking underneath and into the components, or tear one down then it could be somewhere from awful to OK depending on the vendor they use. King Hickory at least makes its own pieces and has a better name in the trade. You can read this post here on the forum on Pottery Barn furniture, though its now several years old:

I think it wise to avoid buying all furniture from the Mall-type stores (Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, Arhaus, etc). Any furniture store located in a premium real estate area has such high overhead in operating costs it comes back to you as the consumer in either higher prices, or lower quality - its' unavoidable. Between those two choices definitely go with King Hickory. I would not buy a PB couch unless it was so cheap I considered it disposable, like a floor model closeout for 75% off. 30% off is typical at PB, they have those often and isn't anything special.
