Helping ID'ing Chair Type

I happened to be at an estate sale recently, and I saw this chair selling relatively cheap. I don't normally buy furniture, but this looked so unusual and interesting that I bought it. Now I'm trying to figure out what it is and a ballpark age. The upholstery is relatively new, but the chair itself appears to have some age, based on wear and finish patina. Would it be considered fauteuil style? Any input would be helpful.
