Default IKEA Stockholm Vinyl Wrap & Restoration

Has anyone seen the YouTube video showing how to wrap the tabletop of the IKEA Stockholm coffee table. They show them using wood putty, sanding it and then just cleaning it before applying what looks to be vinyl contact paper. Will this work without sealing the surface? Has anyone had any experience with this? I have seen a few companies out here that specialize in furniture wraps like Panyl RM Wraps and Rvinyl but wanted to get your take on the feasability and durability of this.

I've used 3M vinyl wrap for years on motorcycles and it works very well in most instances. However I'd not expect much longevity on a table top that is actually used daily, as the vinyl will eventually get small cuts in it and look a bit ratty after some time. But for a cheap stopgap fix, why not? You can do it yourself with a hair dryer and some patience.

I don't have any experience with furniture wraps but I don't see why it wouldn't work as long as the putty is dry.
