Thread: Can't Stay Reclined

    Default Can't Stay Reclined

First off, this is such a great forum! I have read another thread on here regarding this issue, but unfortunately removing one of the springs didn't make it better. I have an Ashley Furniture Kilzer reclining sofa and loveseat. When sitting, I put the feet up and then push back to recline, but the tension is so high that it can barely be managed for more than a few seconds and just comes back to an upright position. I know it's not just me because my big, strong hockey-player boyfriend has the same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

See that big spring along the side? You will have one on each side. Just remove one altogether and see how it works, my bet is that it will work just fine and using just one spring won't hurt anything.

Thanks for the response. As I mentioned in my post, I already tried that and it didn't help.

Sorry, missed that. Take both springs off, you don't need them. If that doesn't work, you may need to replace the mechanism.

I tried that too, didn't seem to operate correctly, the feet wouldn't go down all the way. Not sure why a whole new mechanism would be needed, they have barely been used at all. I guess that's what we get for getting cheap, crappy furniture. The uncomfortableness is a pretty big daily problem though, so hopefully we can figure something out.

You should have a warranty of some kind if the pieces are relatively new, that would be the next step to contact your selling dealer as they should not have that much resistance. Mechanisms themselves have no adjustments, so replacement is the norm.
