Thread: Is this used Hancock Moore sofa a worthwhile purchase?

Default Is this used Hancock Moore sofa a worthwhile purchase?

Looking to furnish a vacation home and came across this used Hancock Moore leather sofa. The owner took some up close photos to show rubs and some surface scratching. He is asking $1,499. Haven't owned leather but love this look. Don't know how old it is. Would it last awhile? And how does it compare to a new Luke leather sofa? Thanks!

That's an older design, no longer made though I can't recall the name of that model. $ 1,500 is steep for one that is probably 15 years old. Half that price is more appropriate.

Thanks! In doing my research I can see you are very knowledgable of the brand and value your input. Without regards to price, does the sofa look in good condition for its age? Could I expect it to have several more good years of life in it? And how do you care for it and remedy rubs and surface scratches? Thanks for the feedback!

It appears to be in good condition. That's a 30 year sofa if properly cared for. I can't tell what leather is on it from the photos, so cannot recommend how to take care of flaws until I know the leather type.

Here is a picture I just got of the label. Can you give me any info based on that as to age and how to care for it?Click image for larger version.

The sofa looks in ok shape for a used one. The price is way too high, should be half that or less. Assuming it feels comfortable to you I don't see why you wouldn't get at least a couple of years out of it.

Also, that label style has not been in use in at least a decade, so you know it is at least that old.

Is there a way I can tell what leather was used on this sofa so I would know how to care for it if purchased?

Not really, you have to know your leathers. When in doubt, use the Leather Solution Kit 1. You can find that here on the forum.

So fast forward a year. We did purchase this sofa and love it! Given how difficult it became last summer, and even more so now, to get any furniture, we are thrilled we bought it. Today when cleaning floor, I discovered the original tag on the bottom. Looks like this is H&M Charter sofa new 6/05, Cov: Auburn Copper, Fin: English Tudor. Given that, any different instructions for care or for handling rubs or scratches? Thanks!

I don't recall that leather type, so don't know what it is? Been out of the line 16 years.....if its a pull-up leather, there is an $ 83 kit instead of the standard $ 50 kit.
