Hello,
I'm new to the forum but have been a reader for some time. I am looking to get a bookcase 36"-42" wide and am unsure whether a 6ft or 7ft bookcase would be more aesthetically pleasing. The ceilings are 8ft tall. I can provide photos of the room if that would be helpful. What are the factors to consider?
Sincerely,
maws13
I'm not aware of any dimensional rules as they apply to bookcases.

Ah. Ok. If I went with 7ft then, what are your thoughts on Yew vs Burl Elm? The color variations in the Yew look more subtle to me in the links below.

Whichever appeals to you the most.

Do not click on those links if you do not want Scully and Scully ads all over your web pages! Sorry I did.
Do you have any windows in the room? You might consider how high the tops of the windows are and where you want to put the bookcases. If they are next to the windows and much shorter or taller it can look strange.
