Durable hardwood furnature

I saw a video on youtube of a female bodybuilder with her back against one end of a sofa and leg pressed the opposite arm rest splitting the wood apart! I've never seen hard wood snap and break apart so fast! and this wasn't cheap furnature, this was a solid wood frame. I was really surprised as I thought hardwood would be more durable? She can also leg press 1200 lbs, but still furnature shouldn't collapse like that
