How to access to the mechanism in a Hancock & Moore recliner

Bought a H&M Royal High-Leg Recliner last fall. While I've really enjoyed it, I can't figure out how to access the area beneath the seat. While watching tv, I've dropped a small pen knife and ball point pens down the side of the seat! I can slide my hand down the small opening below the seat cushion, but if the desired "lost" object isn't in the right place and capable of belting plucked up with nimble fingers, it's impossible to fetch these items. I didn't receive an instruction booklet when the recliner arrived, and I don't seem to be able to find info on how to access this area. I also don't see an opening that reveals the mechanism. Am I missing something? Any ideas would be welcome.

They are not really designed for access, but its not really hard to get in there. Close the recliner up and flip it up-side-down on the floor. If there is a thin, black fabric dust panel, just pull that off (you don't need it anyways). now you have full access.
