Mixing Woods: Tiger Maple & Stained Cherry?
I'm going to look at an Eldred Wheeler tiger maple coffee table tomorrow. It retails for over $1200, but someone who wants to downsize is selling theirs for $450. It's in perfect condition (see attached photo). But none of my other case good pieces are tiger maple--they're mostly dark to medium-tone cherry, like the serving cart I bought as a TV stand (see other attached photo). Different style, as well. This probably isn't going to work, is it?
Re: Mixing Woods: Tiger Maple & Stained Cherry?
As long as the wood tones are compatable I wouldn't have a problem with it. I have tiger maple mixed with cherry and burled walnut and it works!

Thanks, Artie. You wouldn't happen to have a photo handy, would you?

Don't have a picture of the bedroom with the burled walnut and tiger maple.
Here's my kitchen at our lake house which is cherry, curly cherry and spalted maple:

For over a ten year period I was the largest volume Eldred Wheeler dealer in the country, and though that's nice table, I can tell you that they NEVER sold for anywhere close to $ 1,200!
J.L. Treharn makes the same table today priced at $ 815, for example:

Mixing woods and forms is exactly where you want to be in good reproduction furniture. These pieces are designed to mimic the antiques of old (although this particular table never existed as an antique form), and you buy them like you would the originals, based on form, appearance, style, quality but never - ever if they match your other pieces. The more you mix it up, the more it looks like you have fine antiques.
Matching everything in a room is a decorating holdover from the 60's, when you went into a store and bought a 'suite' of furniture. There is NOTHING more ho-hum boring than walking into a room and seeing everything the same. Mix it up, have some fun, explore colors and make your rooms vibrant. Way more fun that way....makes a room come alive.

Hey, Duane. Thanks for the encouragement. :)
On another note: I think this is the table, as it is currently listed on the Eldred Wheeler website:

I guess their prices have gone up!
On another note: I think the table to which you provided a link might actually be a better size for us. Hmmmm. . . .
Re: Mixing Woods: Tiger Maple & Stained Cherry?
That's pretty typical for Eldred Wheeler which has more lives than a cat (its swapped owners and been bought and sold so many times I've lost count). Its like the retail on a Hancock and Moore Sofa, it might say $ 10,000 in the book, but you're going to pay $ 5K for it when all is said and done. I can virtually guarantee you that if you call them they will come off that price with a 'sale' price faster than you can say "blue light special'.
Re: Mixing Woods: Tiger Maple & Stained Cherry?
If you don't mind my asking, Duane, why did you decide not to carry Eldred Wheeler any more? They're now, apparently, partnered with Dave LeFort:
