When ordering a Sectional it’s critical to know the industry terminology, otherwise you can wind up with the wrong pieces in a configuration.

The industry refers to Left and Right with you standing in front of the unit looking at it. When you see LAF in the description that means Left Arm Facing. The Facing part is you standing in front of the piece, you are facing the sofa.

RAF means Right Arm Facing.

About 1/4 of all clients get this mixed up, so if you have any doubt ask your dealer before ordering. You can even ask for a quick sketch to confirm the layout.

We dealers should not assume you are using the correct terms, either. Trust but Verify. I usually will send out a quick sketch with each confirmation to make certain everything is where it should be, and even send that to the factory once confirmed so we are all on the same page.

For example this photo shows the RAF piece shaded in color, and the LAF piece in black and white.
