Elial Saarinen Birdseye Maple Bedroom Set

I have just purchased this set and would like to know its history, whether it is veneer and how best to restore the top of the low dresser and to maintain the rest in my dry, desert climate. I was told that is likely from the 1940’s (Art Deco/Midcentury?). I believe it is quality furniture but would like some comments.
